Terms and conditions

The terms on which we provide quotations and carry out work. Please read them before instructing us. Last updated 20 October 2026.

1. About us

Bentley Electrical Services Ltd is an electrical contractor based in Barnsley, registered in England and Wales (company no. 09894718, registered office 344 Wakefield Road, Barnsley S71 1TH), and a NAPIT Approved Contractor (member no. 23502). "We", "us" and "our" mean Bentley Electrical Services Ltd; "you" means the customer.

If you're a consumer — having work done on your own home rather than for a business — nothing in these terms affects your legal rights, for example under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, or your right to cancel some contracts within 14 days.

2. Quotations

  • Quotations are free and valid for 365 days from the date issued, unless stated otherwise. Because the cost of materials can change, if it rises before the work starts we'll tell you and agree any change in price with you before going ahead.
  • Quotations are based on the information available at the time. If additional work is needed once work has started, we'll agree a revised price with you before carrying it out.
  • A quotation is not a contract. A contract is formed when we confirm your instruction in writing or begin the agreed work.
  • Where an approximate price is given, the final invoice reflects the time and materials actually used.

3. Scheduling and access

  • Please make sure we have safe and clear access to the property and the areas where we'll be working.
  • If you need to cancel or rearrange, please give us at least 24 hours' notice. Late cancellations may incur a charge.
  • We'll aim to arrive within any agreed time window, and let you know as soon as possible if we're running significantly late.
  • A responsible adult (18 or over) should be present while work is carried out, unless we've agreed otherwise.

4. Payment

  • Payment is due on completion of the work unless a different arrangement has been agreed in writing.
  • We accept payment by bank transfer, cash or card. Payment details are shown on your invoice.
  • For larger jobs we may ask for a deposit of up to 50% of the quoted price before ordering materials. Any deposit will be stated clearly in the quotation.
  • For business customers, invoices not paid within 14 days of the due date may be subject to interest and compensation under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998.

5. Our work and standards

  • Work is carried out in accordance with BS 7671 (the IET Wiring Regulations, current edition) and the relevant Building Regulations.
  • Where we carry out notifiable work, we notify it through NAPIT and provide the appropriate certification.
  • We use materials appropriate to the work. Unless agreed otherwise, we source materials at our discretion.
  • We'll leave the work area clean and tidy. Making good after work such as chasing walls, and any redecoration, is not included unless specifically agreed in the quotation.

6. Guarantee and defects

  • Our workmanship is guaranteed for 12 months from the date of completion.
  • The guarantee doesn't cover faults caused by misuse, damage by others, flood, fire or events beyond our control.
  • Components and materials may carry their own manufacturer's warranty, which we'll pass on to you where it applies.
  • Please report any defects promptly. We'll investigate and carry out remedial work at no extra charge where the fault is due to our workmanship.

7. Liability

  • We hold public liability insurance; details are available on request.
  • Our liability for any claim shall not exceed the total value of the work carried out under the relevant contract.
  • We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including loss of earnings or business, arising from any defect or delay.
  • Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be limited by law.

8. Health and safety

  • Please tell us about any known hazards at the property before work begins — including asbestos, known wiring faults or structural issues.
  • If we find a condition that poses an immediate danger, we may stop work, make the installation safe where we can, and advise you accordingly.
  • Please keep children and pets away from the work area.

9. Complaints

We aim to resolve complaints quickly and fairly. If you're unhappy with any part of our service:

  1. Contact us first by phone or email. We aim to respond within 2 working days.
  2. If we can't resolve it, you can raise it with NAPIT, our scheme operator, through its complaints process at napit.org.uk.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK as a consumer, you may also be able to bring proceedings in your local courts.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version in force when you instruct us applies to that contract.
